HAYDEN MENZIES

SEPTEMBER 5TH to OCTOBER 1ST 2008
VERNISSAGE : FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH
7:30PM – 10:30PM

ARTGUISE GALLERY 590 BANK ST. OTTAWA ONTARIO CANADA

Artguise Gallery is pleased to welcome the return of Toronto based painter Hayden Menzies. Hayden’s new body of work is a natural continuation of the themes, palette and execution of his first showing at Artguise. The narrative in this new series encompasses imagery that is all at once bizarre, playful and titillating. Each composition transmits a surreal language swirling with pastel tonalities and inhabited by carnival-like curiosities. Though the figures existing within their canvas realms are fantastical, there is a multi layering of materials that succeed in constructing a tangible sense of place for them to exist in. Based on the success of Hayden’s first solo show at Artguise we are anticipating great things from the artist in his second Artguise exhibit. Please join us opening night when the artist shall be in attendance.
All are welcome.

Pat’s new works in “THE MATTER” series are created in a free flowing dynamic spirit. His imagery sharpens in definition as layers are added and detail is refined; juxtaposing the dreamy non literal with realistic punctuations. Pat has long employed a strikingly vivid colour palette that is once again evident in this new series. Through his process Pat explores cerebral themes which evoke of the viewer a myriad of interpretations. The new collection is a continuation of his evolving process of stripping down image to become a more painterly and abstracted representation of his vision. The painter’s unique works have long commanded enthralled response from visitors to the gallery. Please join us opening night when the artist shall be in attendance. All are welcome.
